Dear LEI applicants,

The LEIpapa team would like to bring to your attention an important policy update regarding LEI renewals for entities found to be inactive or dissolved on official registries.

Our Local Operational Unit encounters an increasing number of cases where renewal requests are submitted for entities that, upon verification, are discovered to be no longer active. While we understand that such situations may occur unintentionally, it’s important to note that checking and verifying registry data involves both time and cost.

As a result, moving forward:

Renewal Process: If a renewal request is submitted and we find the entity to be inactive, dissolved, or otherwise no longer in good standing on the registry, we will proceed with the renewal and apply the relevant charge.

No Refunds: Refunds will not be issued in these cases, as the service and associated work have already been carried out.

We strongly recommend that you, as an LEI applicant, verify the entity’s current status on the relevant registry to ensure it is still active and trading before submitting a renewal request. Instead of renewing the LEI, you should initiate a data quality amendment with the vetting team.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to maintain the efficiency and integrity of LEI services and ensure the required data quality standards within the Global LEI System (GLEIS).
